A NEW DOOR OPENS FOR YORKSHIRE BASED MANUFACTURING BUSINESS.
Global Doors and University of Huddersfield kick off Manufacturing Champions project
Global Doors recently celebrated a successful application with the Manufacturing Champions, business support programme.
Global Doors is a leading specialised manufacturer of ‘made to order’ sliding wardrobe doors, with a skilled workforce of 30 people comprising manufacturing and business operating roles. For over twenty-five years, Global Doors have built a company that is able to offer a full range of storage solutions, to a wide target audience.
Despite being a small business, they have big plans to grow and increase their value as a Yorkshire-based manufacturing business, to a turnover of ten million in three years, creating more jobs and elevating the skills and capabilities of the team.
Global Doors are committed to working with the Manufacturing Champions Programme, to help achieve the planned growth and company objectives.
The Manufacturing Champions Programme has worked with 35 companies to help them on their journey to success, and with big plans in place, the programme will now help and ensure that Global Doors are taking the correct steps. Change management (CM) is one key area of focus, and this type of embedded support is crucial for success.
Matthew Fletcher, Commercial Director stated, “This programme will be vital in developing and embedding systems, processes and decision making for growth.”
After a successful application, the programme will drive the profitability and support the business by providing a dedicated Manufacturing Mentor - Jonathan McMullon.
The company will receive 60 hours of support from their Mentor, being pivotal in the manufacturing development of the business; The mentor will assist in rationalising the design process, advising on maximum activity and business priorities, support them by helping with Capex and Revenue grants and open opportunities of further support from the University of Huddersfield. Following a tech and Productivity review an Action Plan will be agreed and implemented with the team.

Other key goals include the transition to become a parts-based manufacturing business and strategically embed this as a business offer, the development of a full digital factory and to produce the most cost effective and sustainable made to size sliding door in glass / wood by deploying the most effective automated manufacturing methods for the industry to increase efficiency and increase stakeholder value.
The Manufacturing Champions Programme is a business support programme, funded by the ERDF and delivered by the University of Huddersfield, which launch in July 2020 and runs until the end of March 2023. Generally, by invitation only, Manufacturing Champions provides strategic support to SMEs operating within the manufacturing sector and is aimed at companies with high growth potential, who meet the qualifying criteria and have the ability and commitment to achieve growth. To date, Manufacturing Champions have approved 35 applications of 36 submitted, contracted 11 grants to a total of £36,590 and have additionally supported the submission of 8 LEP grant applications.
